Biography
Well established as one of the UK’s leading golf coaches, David Thorp has been a PGA Professional for over 35 years.
While attached to various clubs across the UK, David has run and coached at many golf days and events including the Ryder Cup, the Open Championship and the Times-Olivetti Corporate Golf Challenge as well as public golf shows at the NEC and many other venues.
David has also enjoyed a distinguished playing career, holding a remarkable 20 course records, competing in four Open Championships and representing Great Britain and Ireland in the 1980 PGA Cup in the USA.
Other career highlights include: Midlands PGA order of merit champion in 1981, 1982; Warwickshire PGA match-play champion 1980 and 1985; Lancashire PGA under-23’s champion 1972 and 1973; winner of many pro-ams and regional tournaments.
Currently based in Shropshire in the midlands, David has now developed a successful teaching career coaching the full spectrum of golfers from juniors to seniors, beginners to tour pros. He has also coached England Girls, Cornwall Girls and Shropshire Girls.
David has recently been awarded the status of “PGA Advanced Professional” by his peers in recognition of his achievements in golf. Less than 200 out of a total PGA membership of 7,500 have been given this accolade.
